Photo Stories

For this final Brief I decided to use 'Cavafy Cheats Playing Dtrip Poker' from Duane Michals, unfortunatelly I wasn't able to find any technical informations about these photographs accept that they're glatin silver prints with hand applied text, each of them at size 5x7 inches. I also found that this photo story was inspired by a poem wrote by Constantine Cavafy called 'The Windows' which You can read below.
In these dark rooms where I live our empty days,
I wander round and round trying to find the windows.
But the windows are not to be found -
or at least I can' find them. And perhaps
it is better that way.
Perhaps light will prove another tyranny.
Who knows what new things it will expose?

For my piece I have decided to relate to this work from a different angle. Poker is a type of an addiction, especially for people that cheat n they know they can get away with it, in my work I wanted to show the biggest addiction of modern world which is drinking, basically a simple night out that has gone bad which unfortunatelly is a quite common thing. For this I have asked one of my friends to be my model which she was quite happy about and me knowing that she likes modeling I was comfident that I will have good results which I did. Because the piece I chose to be my inspiration is in black and white I decided that I will use black and white in my photographs as well. At first I wasn't sure how many photographs I will hav at the end, but it worked out to be exactly twelve as at Duane Michals piece I chose. With Duane Michals work you can see that the photographs have been taken from th same angle but were zoomed in and out in moments, I have decided to make my photographs a little bit messier and have them from a bit different angles as poker is more sophisticated addiction/game, but on the night out you have no idea what is going to happen and it's more wild so i decided it will suit my story more to have a bit of mess in consistency. Below you can see  my final photographic story.
